The Panama Canal and Bladex have signed an alliance for sustainable development

The Panama Canal and Banco Latinoamericano de Comercio Exterior (Bladex) have signed a collaboration agreement that seeks to join forces to promote sustainable development in the Panama Canal watershed. This alliance underscores the shared commitment of both institutions to environmental protection and community well-being.
The agreement encompasses the joint implementation of projects focused on integral wellbeing, education, environmental protection, and community development, including the coordination of corporate volunteering programs, where employees from both institutions will contribute their time and effort to carry out initiatives with the communities.
“This alliance with the Panama Canal is a prime example of how inter-institutional collaboration can deliver tangible benefits for our communities and the environment in a region of global interest. The Panama Canal watershed, its forests, and its communities are pivotal to global trade, so their preservation is a priority,” said Jessica Janson, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communication and Social Investment at Bladex.
Ilya Espino de Marotta, Deputy Administrator - Sustainability Officer of the Panama Canal, emphasized: “This agreement reinforces our commitment to sustainable development and the well-being of the communities that make up the Panama Canal watershed. By working closely with strategic partners like Bladex, we can maximize the positive impact of our actions.”
This initiative is in line with the sustainability strategy of Bladex and its foundation, Crece Latinoamérica. The initiatives to be developed in conjunction with the Panama Canal are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aim to generate long-term positive impacts in the beneficiary communities.
The alliance between the Panama Canal and Bladex signifies a joint effort to promote sustainability and development for the benefit of the region.
